U.S. President Joe Biden plans to select former North Carolina health secretary Mandy Cohen to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Washington Post reported on Thursday, citing three people with direct knowledge of the situation. Biden's formal announcement is expected later this month, according to the report.

National Institute of Standards and Technology – June 6, 2023
Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Director Laurie E. Locascio announced to the  leaders joining the CHIPS Research and Development Office CHIPS for America, which brings semiconductor manufacturing back to the U.S.. The CHIPS R&D Office also recently released , describing the focal point for the CHIPS R&D programs; Manufacturing USA Semiconductor Institute(s): Summary of Responses to Request for Information, with the manufacturing community’s input on the design of new semiconductor-related institutes in the national network, and Metrology Gaps in the Semiconductor Ecosystem: First Steps Toward Establishing the CHIPS R&D Metrology Program, describing the stakeholder input and analysis leading to the program’s priority areas.

Lawmakers voted to not spend more money on domestic programs in order to avert default. That doesn’t leave much wiggle room for appropriators to increase the Pell Grant or give more money to Federal Student Aid.
