Legislative Priorities

Supporting the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø¿ª½± System is an investment in the future of our state.

The University serves Missouri citizens and communities through its mission of teaching, research, public service and economic development across our four universities and MU Extension. Support of the following priorities will help us carry out our core mission.

 

Legislative Priorities for 2023 include:

UM Core Funding
  • Inflationary increase of all core funding to support our mission of teaching and training, research and statewide engagement
  • Funding for capital projects at each university, including
    • Third round of state-matched ARPA project funding
    • New funding to support priority projects
  • Increased funding for Extension & Engagement to continue rural community impact for agriculture, health, education, broadband and economic growth

UM System Highlights

  • With more than 310,000 alumni that live in Missouri, our universities educate the majority of the state's physicians, veterinarians, pharmacists, optometrists, dentists, attorneys, engineers and scientists.
  • Up to 95% of our graduates systemwide start a great career, continue their education or join the military.
  • This year, we celebrated historic high graduation (up to 76%) and retention rates (over 91%) and our application numbers continue to increase.
  • Our universities conduct the highest level of meaningful research in the state — over $575M in total expenditures.
  • The UM System has a $6.5 billion impact on Missouri's economy.
  • We make an impact in all 114 MIssouri counties and the City of St. Louis through Extension & Engagement.
