U.S. Senator Josh Hawley Press Release 鈥 May 15, 2023
U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) sent a letter to U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Ranking Member John Boozman (R-Ark.), outlining Missouri's priorities for Title I and Title XI in the upcoming 2023 Farm Bill. These include the preservation of a strong farm safety net in light of high input prices and changing market conditions. In addition, the next farm bill should not attempt to link crop insurance funding with 鈥渃limate smart鈥 practices.

Roll Call 鈥 May 10, 2023
The House is postponing consideration of the fiscal 2024 defense authorization bill while Congress works to resolve an impasse over the debt ceiling, lawmakers said Wednesday. The House Armed Services Committee was initially scheduled to hold subcommittee markups this week, with full committee markups next week. The House markup has been postponed, with no new dates announced. The Senate Armed Services Committee announced subcommittee markups will occur on June 20 and 21, with full committee markup scheduled for June 21. The postponements in both chambers are the result of ongoing debt ceiling negotiations. 


Senate Committee on Appropriations 鈥 May 17, 2023
U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), Chair and Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee respectively, announced their plans to hold markups of bipartisan funding bills in June.


The Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related
Agencies bill provides a non-defense discretionary total of $25.313 billion for programs under the jurisdiction of the Subcommittee, $532 million (2.1%) below the FY23 enacted level and $3.622 billion (12.5%) below the FY24 President鈥檚 Budget Request. The Subcommittee鈥檚 allocation is $17.163 billion, and the House bill includes another $8.150 billion that is offset by clawing back the Democrats鈥 wasteful spending over the last two years and ending pandemic-era programs. The bill prioritizes agencies and programs that protect our nation鈥檚 food and drug supply; support America鈥檚 farmers, ranchers, and rural communities; and ensure low-income Americans have access to nutrition programs. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $40 million in funding for 15 projects that will develop high-performance, energy efficient cooling solutions for data centers.
