Dr. John R. Middleton holds a BS, DVM, and PhD from Washington State University, is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal), and an associate member of the European College of Bovine Health Management. His academic appointment is Professor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in the College of Veterinary Medicine. He has held clinical, teaching, research, administrative, and service roles at MU since 2001. His research has been primarily focused on mastitis and milk quality in dairy cattle and goats, in particular the epidemiology of microbial pathogens. Other research efforts have included comparative and translational research using sheep and pigs as models for human conditions. He served on the MU Faculty Council for 5 陆 years including its Executive Committee as Chair of Fiscal Affairs (2018-2019) followed by Vice Chair (2019-2020) and finally Chair (2020-2021) as well as being a representative to the Intercampus Faculty Cabinet (2019-2021). In August 2021 he joined the Office of the President where he currently serves as Chief of Staff and Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs. Externally, he has held leadership roles in the American College of Veterinary of Internal Medicine, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Dairy Science Association, and the National Mastitis Council.
