NextGen Discovery Series | Christopher Contag, Ph.D

The NextGen Precision Health Discovery Series provides learning opportunities for UM System faculty and staff across disciplines, the statewide community and our other partners to learn about the scope of precision health research and identify potential collaborative opportunities. The series consists of monthly lectures geared toward a broad multidisciplinary audience so all can participate and appreciate the spectrum of precision health efforts.

Advancing the University’s Research Mission through Multidisciplinarity in Biomedicine

In this presentation, Dr. Contag described the IQ and its formation, highlighted the science that has developed from the institute, and discussed best practices for building centers of excellence that extend the breadth and depth of Michigan State’s research and educational mission. The institute is devoted to basic and applied research at the interface of life sciences, engineering, information sciences, and other physical and mathematical sciences.

Dr. Christopher Contag joined Michigan State University in 2017 as the founding director of the Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering (IQ) and the inaugural chair of the new Department of Biomedical Engineering in the College of Engineering. He is also a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.
